Skijor Skowhegan

Be the thrill. See the thrill. Feel the thrill.

February 29, 2020 • Skowhegan State Fairgrounds

Skijor Skowhegan: Northeast Equestrian Skijoring Regionals is a team time-trial race where a horse and rider pull a snowboarder or alpine skier down a 1,000-foot track of gates and three jumps. Skijor Skowhegan is the only equestrian skijoring race in the Northeast. Competitors will compete for cash prizes and other swag.

Skijoring means “ski driving” in the Norwegian language and is a popular sport in the Scandinavian countries. Today the sport is appreciated and practiced widely throughout the United States’ Midwest. Main Street Skowhegan is proud to bring the sport to Maine and the Northeast.

Skijor Skowhegan competitor registration opens November 2019! Please read event rules and regulations carefully before registering.

Join us for a skijoring clinic! Date TBD

Want a taste of what it’s like? Join us for a skijoring clinic (date and location to-be-determined) to get a feel for the sport, learn how to rig your saddle, and prepare for race day! Skijor Skowhegan rules and regulations (i.e., required helmets, horseshoes, and conduct) are still valid and maintained during this clinic. You can find the full list of rules and regulations here.

No registration is required for the clinic. If you are bringing a horse you will need to bring a copy of their current Coggins test.

No horse, no skier? No problem!

You do not have to have a horse and rider or a skier/snowboarder teammate to sign up. Those registering as an individual will be paired with a teammate on the day of the event.
